The rudening of America

Okay so I've been feeling a bit bloggy lately and today something really set me off. I'm so tired of the general rudeness of Americans. I can't understand why so many people think it's okay to just not pay attention to others. I get that we started as a country by stepping on others (eg. Indians,) but seriously, have learned nothing?

I was at Wal-Mart today to try and get my stupid oil changed. I pulled up to the back and parked the car. I was going around the side to get out Penelope when some old man comes barreling into a handicapped spot. I'm closing my door as he's getting out of his. I notice his keys in hand so I make sure to say to Penelope "Mommy's getting the oil changed" thinking he'd take the hint that I was there first to get my car serviced. The old guy looks at me and then rushes into the door. He does not get the door for me or let me go in line first even though I was clearly there. Then he tells them he wants an oil change and I realize he's cut in front of me essentially. Then the equally and equally old guy working at Wal-Mart tells me there's no way they can get my car in before closing. They close at 6 and it's 4:30 when the guy tells me this. Ugh so I didn't get the oil change and I ended up feeling like I didn't matter because some old coot needed to get his oil changed before I did.

So now that's off my chest.... I just think folks should take a moment when they do something and look around. Who's around you? Are you cutting in front of anyone? Are you being rude to anyone? I know that a lot of people just don't care who they bother, but I'm not like that. I think common courtesy is grossly underestimated and I hope it comes into fashion sometime soon before my daughter grows up thinking that it is.

Peace.
